The Academy of International Affairs NRW in the Federal City of Bonn is dedicated to the global challenges and structural changes in international politics in the 21st century. As the Academy’s central focus, through its Fellowship programme it promotes scientific and scholarly excellence and builds international and interdisciplinary connections.
In a time of global changes and novel challenges, massive international efforts are needed to secure the future for the next generations. The Academy supports active shaping of the coming transformation processes. It brings together the outstanding figures from science and scholarship, politics and society, in order to find new paths together and devise new solutions for a politics focused on the future.
At the core is an international and interdisciplinary fellowship programme, which invites outstanding thinkers to Bonn for several months. The Academy offers them ideal opportunities for work and cooperation.
The wider environment in Bonn is characterised by central figures in academic research, politics, the United Nations, the media and civil society. The Academy and its Fellows are hosts and discussion partners for them all.
The Academy promotes research and debate in the thematic area of international politics. The Academy’s thematic breadth can be seen in the rich variety of research interests and profiles of its Fellows. The Academy is open for all research questions addressing global challenges and international dynamics. Accordingly, our fellows are based in different disciplines, particularly but not exclusively in the humanities and social sciences.
The Academy’s activities include public lectures, cross-disciplinary discussion panels, fireside chats and events with partner institutions. The Academy seeks out discussion with the interested public, civil society and representatives of parliaments, governments, the media and businesses.
